Rochester Country Fair Fiddle Contest

The Rochester Fiddle Contest began in 2004. Its first 7 years (2004-2010) were at the Rochester Fair's original location at Plumb Corner. There was no admission fee for the Fair or contestant fee for the Contest. The Fair had to move on short notice in 2011, as the that location was no longer available. A smaller Fair was held without a Fiddle Contest that year. The Fair now has a permanent home on town land, but its costs are higher due to continuing required Fairgrounds improvements. A contestant fee was implemented ($5 or $10 depending on which division entered) for 2012 - 2014. Unfortunately the number of contestants dropped from 19 in 2010 to 5 in 2014. In 2015 the contestant free was dropped, and we had 10 in 2015, and 8 last year.

Come play in this small friendly contest, Saturday August 19, 2017 Registration: 12:30pm, Contest 1pm. Fair-goers love to listen and there are cash prizes and ribbons(5 per division). The Falmouth Fiddlers play before the Contest and there's an open jam for all acoustic instruments at the end.
Rochester Country Fair, 65 Pine St, Rochester MA (about 70 min. from Boston, 55 min. from Providence, 25-30 min. from the Cape Cod bridges).

Wondering what tunes contestants have been playing?
We kept a record of what tunes were played beginning in 2010, 59 contestants choose 124 tunes to play as either a Warm-up (optional and not judged), Tune of Choice (not a Waltz), or a Waltz (a tune in 3/4 time). Some tunes have been played more than once: Ashokan Farewell (6x in 2010), along with Over the Waterfall, Ookpik Waltz, and Road to Lisdoonvarna are some of the most popular.
